I photographed a mysterious “BLOB DYLAN” tag in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick back in January 2021. That led to enough articles about BLOB DYLAN that I put them together in a BLOB DYLAN collection. I learned while researching BLOB DYLAN that the tags have appeared in many places, but the man behind the tags likely started out in Florida before moving to New York City. My research and other sources suggested that Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a BLOB DYLAN hot-spot. However, despite having been to Williamsburg on several occasions since I saw my first BLOB DYLAN in Bushwick, I had never noticed a BLOB there. I passed through Bushwick on just one subsequent occasion after January 2021 and saw a second Bushwick BLOB. In light of the fact that I live in Brooklyn (albeit not in Williamsburg) and have written extensively about BLOB DYLAN, my not having documented a tag in Williamsburg made my New Leaf Journal BLOG writing seem incomplete. But on May 4, 2025, my first trip to Williamsburg of 2025, I finally encountered a BLOB DYLAN tag in Williamsburg.

This BLOB DYLAN was scribbled on the side of a cast iron tree pit guard. It is done in the same style as the second BLOB DYLAN I photographed in Bushwick on May 26, 2024, with a ring around the “O” in BLOB and circle around the “A” in DYLAN. It differs from the first one I documented in Bushwick on January 26, 2021, which had a line through the “O” in BLOB and no adornment on the “A” in DYLAN. This does not necessarily help us date the BLOBs, however, since I noted in my 2021 BLOB DYLAN research article that other people had previously documented both styles.

(Note: I am not 100% certain about the precise location of this BLOB, but I believe it was on Roebling Street somewhere between Grand Street and South 3rd Street.)

I could not help but notice that next to BLOB DYLAN someone had scribbled “HOMESI” followed by what I think may be an “e” but could just as well well be an “s” or greater than “>” sign. That scribbling is done in blue-green color and I see there are two dots on each side of the center line of the I. I tried conducting a reverse-image search but I did not come up with any on-point results, so I am left to conclude that “HOMESIe” (or whatever that last symbol is) is not yet as well-established as Mr. BLOB DYLAN.
