I published three snowman-themed articles since the end of December, with one covering an actual snowman and two covering a snowman kokeshi doll and snowman cups respectively. Subsequent to my snowman coverage at the end of 2025, New York City has seen two significant snow dumps. When snow falls, some people build snowmen. Below, I share with you three snowmen I encountered in Brooklyn, New York City, in early 2026.
Snow Bears(?) on Court Street in Cobble Hill
On February 24, 2026, I saw two snow creatures on a wooden bench surrounding a tree pit outside a restaurant on Court Street in Cobble Hill.
These do not appear to be snowmen or women. My first thought was bears. My second thought was Ewoks from Star Wars. While they are not as refined as the “Snow King” I happened across on Atlantic Avenue at the end of December 2025, they are detailed in that they have eyes, noses, mouths, and scarves. I noticed the bigger snow creature on the left (perhaps a parent or big sibling) is wearing a baseball cap with the letters “IHSL.” I was not sure what it stood for. A quick web search turned up an “International High School at Lafayette.” That school is on the other side of Brooklyn and would be a good trek even with public transportation, so it does not have an obvious connection to the area. But perhaps an IHSL student, parent, or alumnus participated in the snow sculpting.
Faceless Snowman in Cobble Hill
One day later, I happened upon a lopsided, faceless snowman in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, with asymmetrical sticks for arms.
When I saw it I could not help but think “homunculus,” but I assume a kid is responsible for this one. This snowman was built in the front-area for 2 River Park, which is the tallest building in Cobble Hill.
Snowman With Glasses in Boerum Hill
Later on the evening of February 25, 2026, I noticed a three-segment snowman (classic) wearing glasses in a flower part outside a small residence in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn (I forget which street it was).
I had not planned to take any more photos at this stage of my walk since I was now encumbered by groceries from Mr. Beet, but I could not let a snowman with glasses go without being photographed. This snowman also had three buttons and what may have been intended to be a bowtie (unclear). While the craftsmanship could be more defined, there is no doubt it is a snowman, Moreover, I fully approve of the glasses.
Snowmen or Figures in Carroll Gardens
I wrote my first draft of this article on February 27. Fortunately, I did not publish it before taking an afternoon walk on the 28th after publishing my newsletter. While walking, I saw a three-segment snowman and what was probably supposed to be a second snowman (now two-segment) in the front lawn area of a Carroll Gardens brownstone.
The taller snowman had a stick for an arm, much like the one I recorded three days prior in Cobble Hill.
Conclusion
I appreciated seeing some creative snowmen after the fresh (and excessive) snowfall of February 22-23, which came just as the previous snowfall had only started to melt. The previous snowfall did not yield many snowmen, women, or creatures, perhaps because it was below freezing for about two weeks after the fact. But the temperatures were higher after the late February snowfall, which provided a brief window for people to indulge their snow-sculpting creativity. With that being said, I would have no complaints if these are the last snowmen I have the opportunity to cover this winter.
