Long-time New Leaf Journal readers may vaguely remember the two appearances of my Vankyo MatrixPad S7 tablet in 2020 articles. It has not seen much use since 2020 (and with my LineageOS tablet and /e/ OS phone, it has few practical uses), but I am currently putting it to work as an always-on device for Syncthing syncing. All of my apps on it save for system apps that I cannot uninstall (including Syncthing-Fork) are from F-Droid, and the device is not connected to a Google Account. For this reason, I figured that I could disable Google Play Protect. Technically I could, but my tablet became unbearably slow and borderline non-functional. I re-enabled it and now my tablet works fine. Very interesting.
