Atlus is bringing Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal to the Nintendo Switch. I have played all three games save for P5 Royal (I beat the original Persona 5 and plan to get around to Royal at some point), but this is still terrific news for Switch owners (I have also written two articles about Persona 4 Golden). However, I have some questions about the decision to port Persona 3 Portable. There are three versions of Persona 3: The original and the remastered FES for PlayStation 2 and Portable for PlayStation Pocket. Portable introduced quality of life improvements to the battle system (inherited from Persona 4) and the option to play as a girl instead of a boy (the girl route has better social links than the boy route, but is otherwise identical). However, the Portable version made compromises on the overworld map (downgrade) and did not include the very good 25-30 hour Answer epilogue from FES. A straight Portable port would be a bit disappointing. I would prefer to see a remastered version of Persona 3 FES with some of Portable’s quality of life improvements. In fact, I dare suggest Persona 3 could use a full modern re-master with better social links.
