WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg published an interesting “birthday post” asking people to create blogs for his birthday. The idea is that all blog posts linking to his birthday post would be rendered as pingbacks in the comments section. Unfortunately, I missed the January 11 deadline (I only learned about the project today, HT to Frank Meeuwsen), but comments appear to still be open, so I figured that I would take a stab at sending a pingback from here and The Emu Café Social. Even if the pingback does not go through, I like what Mr. Mullenweg is doing. I previously wrote an article taking the position that the best “social media” is not a centralized platform or silo, but instead webs of independent websites communicating through decentralized standards. Mr. Mullenweg’s birthday post gave me some ideas. I will work on turning them into a concrete article in the future.
