I saw a family of geese swimming in Brooklyn’s toxic Gowanus Canal. This can be taken as a sign that the efforts to clean the canal are making headway. I will note that it did not smell. However, given the frightening chemicals intermixed with the Canal waters, I have expressed my concerns (through Justin) that birds in the Canal may grow thumbs. As I saw the little geese swimming – another thought occurred to me. What if instead of growing thumbs, the geese grew toes. If a goose suddenly had 13 toes, would it still be able to swim? Questions I never thought I would have to ask…
