The last few days have provided some interesting search engines in our logs. Today I found Cốc Cốc search – which appears to be a Vietnamese search engine with an entirely Vietnamese UI. I tried a few searches and determined that it appears that Cốc Cốc uses its own index – the results (including for your favorite perennially virid online writing magazine) were not identical to search engines that rely on Google or Bing. I found English-language documentation for Cốc Cốc’ Search’s web crawler. According to Wikipedia, Cốc Cốc is best known in Vietnam for its Chromium-based web browser.
