Many people dress up for Halloween. For example, I plan to be the editor-administrator of The New Leaf Journal for Halloween 2024. But less explored is the topic of Halloween decorations dressing up for Halloween. I have touched on this overlooked topic in past articles, such as when I covered inflatable Minions dressed as ghosts and vampires, green cars in witch’s hats, and pumpkins with hands in surgical masks. In 2022, I even covered an inflatable Easter decoration which was possibly an egg dressed as a bunny or a bunny dressed as an egg (alternatively, it may have been a hitherto unknown bunny-egg creature). While recently walking through the Brooklyn New York City neighborhood of Cobble Hill, I found a large, inflatable black cat in front of a brownstone. But readers should notice something unusual about the cat:

A large inflatable cartoonish black cat with a purple hat and bat wings, crouched in an aggressive pose, seen in front of a brownstone.

The cat has a hat. That is unusual, albeit holiday decorations in hats are far from unprecedented. But the hat is not what inspired me to take this photo. Instead it was the wings. Why does the cat have wings? While I am not entirely certain, I think the cat has bat wings. But this begs a question: Is the cat dressed as a bat or is this a bat-cat? I am inclined to go with dressed as a bat. We see that this cat is clever enough to wear a hat. A cat in a hat can dress as a bat. But then again, those bat wings do appear to be part of the cat. I suppose it could be a cat-bat in a hat. I think the fact the wings appear to be part of the cat should be chalked up to artistic discretion, but far be it from me to tell my fair readers how to interpret the decoration.
